Antitrust, mobile operators ink memo to fight spam calls, fraud

ST. PETERSBURG, Jun 3 (PRIME) -- The Federal Antimonopoly Service and Russia’s top connection operators have signed a memorandum to resist spam calls, including phone fraud, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the authority said on Thursday in a statement.

The document was signed by officials of the watchdog and MTS, MegaFon, VimpelCom, working as Beeline, and T2 RTK Holding, working as Tele2.

In order to shield subscribers from unwanted calls, including advertisements, the connection operators designed special technical solutions and algorithms that block spam calls. Such calls will be blocked upon subscribers’ consent only.

The antispam services will also protect clients from phone fraud, and the program will uncover spam numbers thanks to big data analysis and machine learning, among others.
